My Hero Academia – Episode 54 (Review)

By: AlanVAs soon as the licensing test begins Class 1-A is up against it, as the rest of the field comes after them. Class 1-A isn’t the most popular, with the rest of the kids in the exam looking to knock them down a peg or two. They will have to stick together to have a chance of getting their provisional licenses. However, it’ll be a tough task as there are some seriously tough opponents they’ll need to dispatch. While the kids from Class 1-A have had some opportunities to work together in small groups before, they’ve never had a chance to work as an entire unit. It seemingly offered an opportunity to see a nice mix of abilities between classmates that haven’t been seen before. Unfortunately, the group is split up rather quickly. Hopefully this changes in future episodes. There are a lot of new faces in this episode, and they’re all formidable fighters. Although some definitely stand out more than the others. One of those characters is Inasa Yoarashi, who is ranked even higher than Todoroki. While his strength and abilities are interesting, what’s more compelling is he decided not to attend U.A. High School. We’ll undoubtedly learn more about this decision in future episodes.Another character that shines bright is Camie Utsushimi. She also has some powerful abilities that are on full display as she attacks Deku head on. Although as the fight proceeds we see more of her personality. She begins to play mind games with Deku, in a way that is more reminiscent of a villain than a hero. Although that could just be her fighting strategy to throw her opponents off their game. It’s a coin toss as to how evil she is.My hero Academia already has a great stable of characters. So it’s impressive that it’s still able to add even more intriguing characters into the mix. Even the ones that don’t get a lot of screen time still have fascinating abilities and strengths that challenge Class 1-A.There is a lot to like about this episode. New characters, new abilities and tons of good action sequences. It’s a little disappointing to not see more combinations between kids in Class 1-A, but hopefully this changes soon. The next episode should keep the hype train firmly on its tracks and continue to deliver on all fronts.
