My Hero Academia - Episode 45 (Review)
By: AlanVThe battle at the training camp between the students and the villains come to an end, and the ramifications are severe for the heroes. The villains are able to accomplish their main goal of capturing a certain hot-head. This successful kidnapping leads to the already shaky confidence the public has in hero society to diminish further. One of the interesting things that has popped during this arc is the insistence of both the heroes and the villains in referring to Toga as crazy. Although this is a bad take. She’s proven that she’s able to recognize when she’s at a disadvantage and is willing to bail when this happens. She’s also able to pull back even when she seems to be disturbingly focused on a goal. This behavior is not something an irrational person would do.She’s not the only one who’s underestimated. The League of Villains keeps getting these small victories against the heroes. While not delivering a death blow, they are chipping away the veneer of invincibility that the heroes possess in society. The staff at UA acknowledge as much during a meeting, noting that they have been resting on their laurels. This shakes All-Might to his core. One of the things he has been steadfast about is that heroes are there to be a stabilizing and uplifting force for people, even in the darkest of moments. So these developments hit him hard, seemingly knocking him off his game. It’s obvious that he’s incredibly angry by what’s happened, angrier than we’ve seen at any point in the series. Could this lead to him overextending himself, or doing something he regrets? Maybe. It’s not all doom and gloom, though. Deku is severely injured and at the hospital, but once he regains consciousness he is greeted by some of his mother’s cooking and a large group of his friends. It’s a nice moment, with the kids displaying how much they care for one another and how strong their bonds are after everything they’ve been through. This bond leads them to the conclusion that they must act in order to save their friend. However, not everyone seems to be on board. Their sense of duty and friendship may be what inserts a wedge between the ones who believe the best thing is to let the pros handle it versus the one who think they should jump into the fray. There were a lot of compelling things happening in episode 45. The training camp came to a conclusion, pushing the heroes and students to the brink. We also have a rescue mission to look forward to in the next episode. So this thrilling ride looks to continue without slowing down.
