Morkull Ragast’s Rage Review
Morkull Ragast’s Rage is a 2D action-platformer developed by Disaster Games featuring hand-drawn animation and a focus on melee combat.

Players control Morkull, the God of Death and Darkness, who is aware that he is a character in a video game and breaks the fourth wall to interact directly with the player. Developers accidentally gave him life, then locked him away, and he wishes to escape. Some of the fourth-wall-breaking narrative is funny, but the novelty wears off quickly.
Morkull Ragast’s Rage combines platforming and melee combat. Combat lacks variety, with limited options, and hit detection can feel imprecise; the same goes for dodge and counter timing. This gets a bit frustrating, especially when some enemies can kill Morkull with just a couple of hits.

The hand-drawn animation gives the game a cartoonish style. While the characters and visual design are appealing, the environments are somewhat bland, lacking variety. The environmental homogeneity also made it difficult to navigate and remember routes, since everything looks too similar. It also leads to uninteresting level design.
The game’s biggest shortcoming for me was its map system, which lacks helpful details. At minimum, locked doors should be marked on the map, though it would have been nice if uncollected items were marked as well. I spent far too long going in circles trying to figure out where to go next, which was particularly frustrating with the game’s bland level design.
While Morkull Ragast’s Rage has a fun premise, its inconsistent gameplay and level design prevent it from standing out as an action game or Metroidvania. Frustrating, repetitive combat and a dull world design can make the game feel tedious, even with its short length.
Morkull Ragast’s Rage is available now on Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S.
