Mithical Entertainment's Anime of the Year

By: MithrandielWell, Christmas is rapidly approaching, and that means the new year isn't far behind. Therefore, I thought it would be a great time to look back and pick out the top 5 anime from the year. The only limit to this list is that the show (or its most recent season) has to have started in 2015. Other than that it's completely subjective.2015 has been a great year for anime, and so it was hard to boil it down to my top 5, but here it goes:5) I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying (Season 2)Though I haven't taken the opportunity to review this series yet, I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying was a real delight to watch. With the episodes being only about 3 to 4 minutes long, it is pretty easy to just sit down and digest both seasons really quickly. A comedy series about an otaku husband and his feisty wife, it offers equal parts slice of life, drama and comedy. What really stood out to me, and what helped to make it one of my top 5, was its ability to construct the various characters and flesh them out skillfully despite a very limited time-frame in which to work. If you haven't had a chance to watch it yet, hop onto Crunchyroll and enjoy!4) Fate/Stay Night - Unlimited Blade WorksThis year also saw the resurgence of a large franchise with the re-invigorated Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. With early reviewers and commenters jokingly referring to the series as "Unlimited Budget Works", Aniplex certainly spared no expense in producing it, as it has some of the most beautiful animation I've seen this year. 3) GATEMaking its way into the top 5 with its unique premise and skillful execution, GATE follows a modern-day Japanese Defense Force soldier named Yoji Itami into a mythical and medieval land of knights, dragons, and magic. When the modern and mythical collide, both worlds struggle to develop a balance, with the hapless Itami ever caught up in the middle. The 2nd season has recently been confirmed, which gets me more excited about the possibilities in the coming year. 2) Kekkai Sensen (Blood Blockade Battlefront)If the name sounds familiar it's probably because you just saw my review a few days ago. Kekkai Sensen delivered on pretty much every level: action, comedy, drama, some touches of mystery and horror...it was a well-rounded journey set against a unique backdrop and with a funky and unique jazz-inspired soundtrack to boot. When you add in great character development, it just makes sense that it would end up near the top of my list. 1) One Punch ManIt's been just about two months since I gave my first look review of One Punch Man and I can say, without a doubt, that it has quickly become not only my favorite show of the season, but of the year. With spectacular animation, hilarious characters and one of the best opening songs I've heard in a long time, One Punch Man started off the season firing all cannons and is looking to wrap up the season in the exact same way. Expect to see a lot of OPM cosplay and merchandise in the coming convention cycle, as I know I'm not the only one caught up in its spell. Well that's it for my anime list!
