Mithical Entertainment @ SVCC: Day Two
By: Archmage & ZeloOmegaSVCC officially kicked off yesterday, and it was a full schedule, to say the least. To kick things off, Loot Crate hosted a panel to discuss the creative process behind the figures they ship out.The panel featured Loot Crate founder Matt Arevalo, creative director Zack Finfrock, and illustrators/designers from QMX, Mohammed (Hawk) Haque and Victoria Fung. Hawk had some very interesting things to say about the design process, specifically when it came to designing a Deadpool figure for a recent crate.[iframe id="https://www.youtube.com/embed/T34EaSoGxzI"]Right before they opened up the panel for Q&A, Matt had a special announcement for the crowd - a new subscription tier titled "Loot Crate DX".https://twitter.com/MithicalEnt/status/711268015967309824Following the Loot Crate panel, opening ceremonies officially kicked off the inaugural Silicon Valley Comic Con. Stormtroopers heralded the arrival of Commander-in-Geek, Steve Wozniak. After some words of welcome, the General Manager of Madam Tussauds in San Francisco revealed a new wax statue...one that had been voted on by the fans, and it just so happened to be the striking image of Wozniak himself![robo-gallery id="18383"]After the opening ceremonies, it was time to go to Mars. Now, we might not actually be going to Mars anytime soon, but the panel that came next had us looking for the nearest shuttle. Andy Weir, author of The Martian, was joined by Mythbusters Adam Savage as the two discussed what a mission to Mars might actually look like. Logistics, travel, growing potatoes...the panel discussed the importance of space travel and exploration, and overall it was a great time.[robo-gallery id="18397"]After the Mars panel, we decided to meander around the hall. The San Jose Convention Center features some great spots for cosplay photography, and we were able to get some great shots throughout the day.Nathan Fillion is no stranger to the convention scene, and his fans were out in full force at SVCC. He spoke to a full house about his experience as an actor, and had some words of wisdom for aspiring actors that he delivered in typical Fillion-fashion:[iframe id="https://www.youtube.com/embed/UZN4p286Cf0"]To wrap up the day, founders of SVCC Steve Wozniak and Palmer Luckey sat down for a "Fireside Chat". They had some great discussion around the development of VR/AR, their inspiration for putting on a Silicon Valley Comic Con, and more.[robo-gallery id="18440"]Overall, a solid full day of content from SVCC. We've got one more day left, and there are some great events happening today including the Stan Lee panel, so make sure to check back tomorrow! Are you at SVCC? What do you think so far?
