Masamune-Kun's Revenge - Episode 3
By: MithrandielMiss my previous review? You can find it here![yasr_multiset setid=11]Makabe continues his campaign to capture Aki's heart this week as the threat of supplementary classes drives both of them to tutor the most hopeless students in the class. Makabe takes Kojuurou under his wing as Adagaki attempts to educate her attendant, Yoshino. Makabe makes a playful gamble that whoever gets the highest combined score will be considered the winner - Makabe winning a date with Adagaki, and Adagaki being able to assign Makabe any humiliating nickname that she desires.Unfortunately for Adagaki, she doesn't realize that Makabe made it into the school with a perfect score on the transfer test - a feat previously unheard of. Thinking of him as simply as an air-headed narcissist, Adagaki begins to regret her confidence as the day of the test approaches. The first half has some great scenes, including a tense quiz-off in the hallway between the Cruel Princess and the Former Fat Kid.The second half of the episode features some character and relationship development for Adagaki and Makabe, as the inexperienced Princess meets Makabe for their date (you can probably guess how the test challenge ended up). Arriving in an ornate costume, Adagaki believes that it's customary to dress up in order to break the ice on a first date. This unfortunately invites the attention of a creepy otaku, who leaves once Makabe arrives. The news is finally broken when, in an "Emperor's New Clothes" styled call-out, a young girl points out that Adagaki looks ridiculous. Embarrassed, Adagaki seeks refuge in the nearest clothing store in an attempt to buy a more appropriate outfit for their date, and her cries of lament cause Makabe to rush into the dressing room (why? WHY?!) and invite the expected response of being promptly punched out. It's not all bad, however, as he soon wakes up in her lap, reflecting on the kind of girl Adagaki was when they were younger. Seeds of doubt are beginning to be sown into his master plan...and I'm sure things will only get more complicated from here.Masamune Kun's Revenge continues to entertain despite the tried and true plot lines of a romantic comedy being re-treaded. Continuing to keep it in my lineup to lighten things up after Chaos;Child...
