Logistics of Luck and Logic

Luck & Logic tells the story of chosen youth who defend their world against the invasion of evil gods and arch demons. Paradox gates have opened and new threats from Tetra-Heaven have entered the human world of Septpia. These invaders known as Foreigners force humans to merge with them in order to gain power. The ability to merge with an entity from Tetra-Heaven is known as trancing. However, when a Foreigner forces a human to merge it is known as trance jacking. In order to defend their world, humans have aligned with the Goddesses of Tetra-Heaven. The government agency formed from this union is known as Another Logic Counter Agency. The ACLU trains youth known as Logicalists who posses the ability to trance with these Goddesses.Yoshichika Tsurugi was once a logicalist who defended the Hong Kong region. After a fierce battle with a Foreigner, Yoshichika lost his logic card that allowed him to trance with these heavenly beings. The goddess Athena searches for the missing logic card in hopes to become Tsurugi's covenanter. A covenanter is the celestial partner of a human. Our main protagonist then joins a new branch of the ACLU and quickly rises in rank. Tamaki Yurine and her covenanter Venus serve as the team leader. Their team also includes Chloe and her partner Valkyrie, Mana Asuha and Artemis, Yukari, Olga, their chief Veronica and Director Yaruno. Together, their team defends against these violent invaders and attempt to close the paradox gate.

Series Review

This series has so many interesting concepts, but fails to capitalize on them due to lack of creative development. One example is the use of the word logic throughout all 12 episodes. Logic is referred to as health, ideology, opinion, intuition, genetic makeup and more at various times. This ambiguous method of writing attempts to show logic as an omnipresent entity, but just comes off as confusing and lazy. Another missed opportunity was the explanation of team positions in battle. One episode had an entire scene devoted to what team positions like keeper and center back meant, but then never referenced them ever again.Luck & Logic unnecessarily incorporates sexual undertones to trancing. Except for Yoshichika and Athena, none of the other team members show any romantic interest with their covenanters. It made perfect sense for Yoshichika and Athena's tranceunion to display sexual tension, but was very out of place when it came to any other trancing pair. Near the end of the run, some characters make abrupt shifts in personality and ambition. The concepts behind logicalists and covenanters has so much potential. The twists throughout the series are fun and at times surprising. There is no lack of action. The creative use of armor and weaponry allows for epic battles that draw you in. The animation is well done and retains the viewer focus during the slower scenes. The voice acting is spot on and reflects the personalities on screen. With a few changes, this series could be exponentially improved.

Box Set

The box set comes with all 12 episodes of the series on both blu-ray and DVD. Special features include textless opening and closing songs as well as various trailers. The music is finely crafted and demands to be heard again and again. The box art is colorful and shows off the characters' personalities. Even with it's flaws, this series does have some things going for it and deserves a chance.[yasr_multiset setid=9]
