LEGEND OF THE WHITE DRAGON KICKSTARTER
By: RogueSymbiote
Bat in the Sun has teamed up with some Power Ranger legends to deliver an original story that fans of the franchise can sink their teeth into. Staff and cast have promised a grittier "Netflixy" version of the beloved series that will entertain fans who grew up watching teenagers with attitude kick intergalactic ass. While the property name of Power Rangers is nowhere to be seen, the heart of the franchise remains and exudes nostalgia.
The premise for the Kickstarter film is as follows: "In the Aftermath, the city was left decimated. A past reminder of the great battle and fall of heroes. As a result of the death and destruction the city became known as Angel Graves. The heroes were blamed, stripped of their titles and hunted. But as evil once again threatens to return they must rise from the ashes with the power of the White Dragon."
The cast includes Power Rangers alumni Jason David Frank, Johnny Yong Bosch, Jason Faunt, Ciara Hannah, Yoshi Sudarso and Chrysti Ane, and Jenna Frank.
Teaser Trailer Review
Honestly, there is a lot to enjoy from the teaser trailer. The choreography is phenomenal which is no surprise coming from the creators of Super Power Beat Down. The suits feel like a blend between Power Rangers and Halo Spartan armor in the best way possible. I appreciate the fact that you can see the actor's face underneath the helmet while being illuminated by their unique color.
It's clear that a lot of time and effort went into character design and wardrobe. The reveal of the White Dragon suit is absolutely incredible. As a lifelong Power Ranger fan, that has got to be one of the greatest suit designs of all time. And can we talk about those special effects?! Having watched all of Bat in the Sun's work, even I was surprised by the level of SFX quality.
The makeup department did a great job on Johnny Yong Bosch's facial scar. As a massive fan of Bosch's voice over work, I'm excited to see his passion return to the realm of live action. It is always fun to see Jason David Frank attached to projects like these. As a fixture in this realm since it's inception, it's only right that the original Dragon Ranger pick up the mantle once more.
Overall, I'm excited for this project and look forward to witnessing what surprises they have in store for us. Of course, this won't happen without the support of the community. If you are a fan of Power Rangers and want to see a grittier version with a brand new story, donate to the Legend of the White Dragon Kickstarter which you can find by clicking the link right here!
