Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Teaser Trailer

The first trailer for the latest film in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, was released today.

In this installment, director Wes Ball (Maze Runner trilogy) takes the reins from Matt Reeves (The Batman, Cloverfield), who directed the previous two excellent installments. The screenwriters are Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison, whose collective work includes Avatar: The Way of Water, War of the Worlds, Prey, and earlier Apes reboot films.

The movie is set several generations in the future from when we were last with the. apes. Apes are now dominant, while humans are few and seem feral. There are competing ape communities. In the trailer, we see Caesar’s descendent and a new ape leader building an empire, as well as fierce battles between apes.

The cast includes Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, Dichen Lachman, Sara Wiseman, Neil Sandilands, and William H. Macy.

I’ve got high hopes for this one, even though I haven’t seen any of Wes Ball’s previous work.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be in theaters on May 24, 2024.
