The Story

In the not so distant future, an alien object has been found floating in our Solar System. All expeditions to investigate the anomaly have disappeared into what has been called "The Nullpoint". You are a survivor of one of this expeditions. In order to escape, you will need to navigate the horrifying interior of The Nullpoint, find parts to fix your ship, and uncover the fates of other expeditions.

The Gameplay

As it shows in the type, there are many different gameplay aspects for this. I could probably list another half dozen for The Nullpoint. It plays like X-Com. If you haven't played X-Com, it's reminiscent of the limited troop missions in StarCraft. What's unique about The Nullpoint is there is a heavy emphasis on the survival side. If you've ever played This War of Mine (And if you haven't you should) the survival mechanics HIGHLY remind me of that game.Once you get to the ship, you finally have a home base and can retrofit it to give you bonuses to Healing or item creation. However you have limited resources to upgrade, so you have to invest wisely. I really hope they use the ship in the same way that This War of Mine does. So long as they use this time wisely, there is potential for some great narrative. They have a playable demo, available for download here. As this game is very much Pre-Alpha stage right now, there are a few bugs and it feels unfinished, but it gives you an idea of what they're going for. When I played it, I found that you're rewarded for at least understanding how to Micro your characters. There are elements of Kiting stratagies and some Bullet-Hell dodging of projectiles. Once the mobs start getting slightly large, it gets more and more difficult to micro your Survivors. I really hope they have varying levels of difficulty, that way inexperienced players can still enjoy the game without ragequitting due to skill cap, and seasoned players won't get bored.

The Perks

Each Tier grants you the previous Tiers. If you have 2 prices, that means there's an "Early Bird" option for limited backers.$20/$25 - You get the game$29/$39 - You get their games$40/$49 - NASA Style Mission Patch$79 - Sick T-Shirt!$99 - Poster$149 - All of the Patches! Signed poster$249 - Mini$749 - Slightly Larger Mini$999 - You are The Nullpoint, Name a level after you.$20 for a game that looks this good? Yes please. Entertain the $30 price point if you don't have Enemy Mind yet, that game has such a great concept, and will be worth your time to check out. Swag is always good, but as nice as the patches look, I don't think I'll be pledging higher than the $20. But it will be $20 well spent.

The Verdict

Fund

I really hope The Nullpoint gets funded. Right now it's still gathering support, but they need to get their name out there. The game looks gorgeous, even in Pre-Alpha. There is a very experienced team behind it and there is potential even this early on. I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do. Happy Gaming!
