The Story
Zeus has ordered you, his children, to go play somewhere else as he needs his quiet time. Bored and looking for entertainment, his children find an island inhabited by a clan of builders. They decide to compete to see whose citizens can reach the highest point on the island.
The Gameplay
In Santorini, you play as a god guiding your builders to reach the highest point on the island while blocking your opponent from doing the same. The objective of the game is to get one of your builders to a 3rd level building. To stop your opponent from doing so, you can have another builder cap the peak with a dome.Each God or Goddess has their own special powers which add various twists and strategies to the game.
As you can see, Demeter is able to build in 2 spaces per turn, while Atlas can Cap buildings with domes at any level. There are many many Gods, Goddesses, and now Heroes that you can choose from. There are many more on the way as Stretch Goals are reached.The concept is similar to Connect 4, and is simple enough for Ages 5+ but has complexity that Adults will find it difficult to win every time.

The Verdict

Santorini is a wonderfully crafted game. For such a simple concept, I see hours of replay value in this one. It's also a game that is simple enough for young children to learn quickly and grow into as they learn how to strategize with all the different characters to choose from. The art is cute and well suited to the type of game this is. I'm Always a fan of quick games with High replay value.On the downside, the Kickstarter incentives aren't really there to entice you to give more to their campaign. I would have liked to see a few higher tiers with bonus' but there were a few limited exclusives at the highest tiers that have since been sold out. Still, they give you discounts on multiple boxes, so it would make for a cheap X-mas gift for that gamer in your family!Put on your laurels and reach for the sky.Happy Gaming!
