The Story
In GOTY, players are tasked with completing a project and recruiting talented staff members to create a Game of the Year title. Whether you're attempting to do this on your own, cooperating with friends, or in direct competition, GOTY offers a multitude of play-styles and promises a game that is easy to pick up, but hard to put down.
The Gameplay
The game features 4 card types. First, the Game Card represents the project that player is actively working on. Depending on the project, certain elements of the game such as music or art may have higher requirements to complete. Job cards represent staff that you can employ on your project. The better the employee, the higher the cost. Asset cards track your progress towards a specific goal, designated by 3 levels. Finally, development cards are the "action cards" of the game and can be used to aid you in your game development or sabotage an opponent. As the game begins you are given two game cards, and allocated five "coins" that you can use to hire staff. Each turn you play an asset card on a specific project to help it towards its goal, and can also play development cards to further your progress or hamstring someone else. At the end of the turn assets and job cards reset and you continue this until someone completes both of their projects.
The Perks
There are only two tiers left currently:$24 - One copy of the game, artbook, name in credits as backer$50 - "Best Friend Edition" - two copies of the game that can be mixed/matched for up to 12 players, in addition to previous rewardsI often host large game nights, sometimes with 8-10 players, so I may find myself picking up the Best Friend edition tier.
The Verdict
Fund
I'm a big fan of simple and quick card games like this one seems to be, and the premise appeals directly to my interests as a gamer. I hope they get the support they need so we can see this project come to fruition!
