Katana Maidens ~ Toji No Miko (Episode 2: Review)

By: ThunderHeavyArmThis week, Kanami and Hiyori having escaped from the elite guard, take a moment to catch their breath. Hiyori suggests that she leave her, thinking Kanami will slow her down, and offers to spar with her since Kanami had said previously that’s why she saved her. Kanami points out that because she used up all of her strength trying to kill the leader during the contest, it wouldn’t be fair and she’ll fight her after she’s rested.Meanwhile, Mai deals with the aftermath back at the tournament grounds. She’s eventually found innocent and released, when she receives a call from Kanami from a public phone. Thanks to an announcement overheard on the phone Mai manages to track down where Kanami has gone. She confronts Hiyori and they come to blows until Kanami parries a decisive blow. Kanami tells her the true reason why she’s helping Hiyori. The episode closes on Kanami eating the cookies that Mai had prepared last time and finding a note with a number for her to call if she ever needs help. This was a definite improvement on the last episode and added much needed story and depth to the characters. They bui8ld up the world a bit more, going into the history of how the organization used to track I do admit that when I was watching it, the plot reveal at the end of this episode was a bit cliched, but it’s definitely better than the nothing that we had before. There are two moments during the episode that help to expand on Hiyori as well and reveal a little bit of her past as well as her personality. I’m still curious on where the other characters that are in the intro and outro will fit into this whole thing, since they’re mostly just there for commentary. But for now, this series has managed to get a hold of my attention.
