It’s happening! Animal Crossing is coming to Nintendo Switch!

Guys and gals, the day we’ve been waiting for is almost here. Animal Crossing is going to be released on Nintendo Switch in 2019.

Last night during the Nintendo Direct stream, fans of the franchise were first trolled and then thrilled by Nintendo. For fans everywhere, the delight of seeing Isabelle on the screen quickly dissipated after it was revealed she would be joining the Super Smash Bros roster. Personally, when Isabelle came on screen I cheered as if the Patriots had won the Super Bowl and then immediately screamed “are you kidding me” at my TV, upsetting my dog and probably my neighbors.

Luckily for me and millions of fans everywhere, Nintendo quickly remedied the situation by showing the tiniest teaser trailer for Animal Crossing. In it, we see Tom Nook sitting at a desk in a rather cushy office. He comments on how happy he is to see his friends involved in the Super Smash Bros game, before saying he needs to get back to work. After all, the new arrivals will surely be tired after the camping and smashing they’ve done.

This latest untitled Animal Crossing game will mark the first main series game in over seven years. As fans everywhere know, Animal Crossing: New Leaf was released on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2012. Since then there have been a few spinoff games, like Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

While these games are good in their own right (I have been very happy with Pocket Camp), their limited functions don’t give you the same satisfaction as a full game does. I miss chopping down trees and planting flowers. I miss the terror of having a home loan debt and the joy of paying off my house. I even miss Phyllis, the cranky evening post office pelican.

While 2019 feels extremely far away, it gives us time to both speculate about what the new game will have. On top of that, we will still be able to enjoy Isabelle in Super Smash Bros Ultimate and the many updates to Animal Crossing Pocket: Camp. Then, once we’re finally done camping and smashing, we’ll be able to go home.
