Invincible Season 2 Episode 1 Review
Invincible fans need suffer no more as season 2 is finally here! Reeling in the aftermath of one of the worst father-son confrontations ever, Mark struggles to navigate his emotions and hero status in a post Omni-Man world. Mark’s frustrations are only matched by his mother, Debbie, as she attempts to reconcile the fact her husband of 20 years considered her a pet.
The newly reformed Guardians of the Globe fail to meet Cecil’s standards resulting in a shakeup of leadership and the addition of 2 members. Mark desperately pleads with Cecil to put him back into action to make amends for the lives lost during his battle with Omni-Man. Making amends however appears secondary to finding an outlet for Mark’s intense anger.
The premier episode for season 2 brings back all your favorite characters while introducing a few new faces. Angstrom Levy makes his animated series debut in spectacular fashion. Being a personal favorite from the comic, I was curious how Angstrom’s story might be altered. Thrillingly, the series has elevated Angstrom’s already compelling motivations and distain for Invincible to new heights compared to the source material.
With fantastic animation and dynamic storytelling, Invincible season 2 comes out Viltrumite strong. My only critique is some moments move slowly and disrupt the rhythm of the episode. With how much they need to cover, every second of every episode needs to count. As a fan of the series who has read and owns every single issue, I can not wait to see how the next few arcs are adapted. If you thought season 1’s story was wild, trust me, you haven’t seen anything yet.
