What's in the box?! A review of the Hot Topic Exclusive Crunchyroll Box

By: EyeSpyeAlexAs someone who loves buying things but hates making choices, mystery boxes are an amazing invention. What could be better than getting a bunch of surprise presents mailed to my house? Not much else, that’s for sure. That’s why as soon as I heard Crunchyroll was teaming up with Hot Topic to create an exclusive Funko Crunchyroll box for Ani-May, I knew I had to buy it. My order just arrived and I couldn’t wait to open it.Upon unboxing the Crunchyroll box I was excited to see it looked like a traditional bento box. It even has chopsticks! After gently removing the cellophane and breaking the chopsticks (clean break means good luck!) I was able to see what I received.Immediately I found myself face to face with Dimple, from Mob Psycho 100. The snazzy pencil case (with matching pencils) hid the rest of the treasures underneath. As a huge fan of The Ancient Magus’ Bride, I was especially interested in this mystery box because it has an exclusive Elias Funko pop. While I wasn’t lucky enough to get the Chase version, I am pretty happy with the pop overall.  With skull ridges, curvy horns, and glowing red eyes, this is a pretty detailed Funko pop. The only downside is that the pop is pretty top heavy and doesn’t come with a stand, so it is best to leave this pop in its box.Beneath Elias is a two-pack of Bananya car fresheners! I own several Bananya items and am glad I can take my love for the show on the road now. Finally included in the mystery box is an exclusive Funko pop keychain of Tohru from Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. Despite its small size, this keychain is also a well detailed version of Tohru’s dragon form. I am sure Tohru is very happy to join Yuri and Umaru-chan on my keyring.

The Review

All in all, if you’re a fan of mystery boxes and anime, this is definitely something you want to purchase. At the time of this review the Hot Topic Exclusive Funko Crunchyroll Collectible Box is retailing for $29.90, with a sale price of $23.92. The price is similar to your typical mystery box, but the sale price makes it even better. The only downside to the box is the fact that all of the items can’t necessarily be used by the person it’s for. While I love the pencils, I hardly ever use them in my job and they would probably be more suitable to someone younger than I am. Similarly, someone using the pencils may not have use of the car fresheners. Despite that, if you’re a fan of exclusive and collectible merch, definitely give this box a purchase.
