Gen V Season 1 [Review]

If you had told me a few years ago that The Boys would have one of the greatest live action adaptations of all time, I would’ve been in disbelief. If you went on to tell me a spin-off series centered around a superhero school would be potentially even better, I would’ve laughed in your face. But here we are.

Gen V is not only a phenomenal series, it is one of the most well executed television spin-offs of all time. It perfectly incorporates elements from The Boys without punching you in the face with dialogue or narrative that seemingly says, “HEY! you remember this person from The Boys? Well here they are! You see ‘em?! Cause it’s a spin-off… get it?!”.

Introducing an entire cast of new characters is a daunting task, but Gen V does so seamlessly. Every character has their moment to shine while also providing in-depth backgrounds that allow viewers to truly care for the co-leads.

The level commitment from everyone in Gen V is stellar. A world of fantastical and terrifying superpowers has never felt more grounded. Our co-leads in Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizzie Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, and Asa Germann are absolutely BRILLIANT! Their unique power sets are impressive, but it’s their dedication to the roles that truly wow.

The visuals are INCREDIBLE! The level to detail and sense of realism has carried over from The Boys, making it one of the most visually impressive shows currently running. If visuals and acting weren’t enough, the overarching storyline for the season is unbelievably captivating.

The season culminates in a shocking finale which has been revealed to tie directly into season 4 of The Boys. Gen V has already been renewed for season 2 and I can’t wait to see what comes next! Do yourself a favor and watch one of the greatest superhero shows ever created.

Gen V is for mature viewers only! No kids with this one, trust me

Overall Score: 10/10
