GeForce NOW Turns RTX On, Goes Mobile
Nvidia’s GeForce NOW service continues toget better, with the official rollout of ray tracing (RTX) capable serversstarting today. Gamers who live in Northern California and Germany will be thefirst to experience this bump in graphical fidelity. Nvidia will continue toroll out these upgraded servers to their data centers throughout the world asthe year goes on.
At the moment the only way to get a decent gamingexperience with ray tracing enabled is to have one of Nvidia’s more high-endgraphics cards. Having this available on their streaming platform will make itmore easily accessible, and more gamers will be able to see what all the fussis about. That developers don’t have to do any extra work in order to enablethis is another huge bonus.
RTX isn’t the only thing Nvidia has up itssleeves. They also announced that GeForce NOW is going to be available onAndroid phones soon, with LG and Samsung being manufacturers specifically mentioned. It looks as if Nvidia wants gamers to have a complete experience as they arerecommending the use of Bluetooth gamepads with their app.
GeForce NOW has only available on Mac, PC,and Nvidia Shield. However, with the approaching release of Google Stadia it’sclear that Nvidia felt the need to make the move into the mobile space.Unfortunately, there is no mention of the service coming to iOS any time soon.Hopefully this is something that’s being worked on but, isn’t ready forprimetime yet.
Lastly, an interesting tidbit comes acrossin two sentences, “We already support over 500 games, with compatibility forthousands more. And we’re exploring how our users can play more of theirfavorite games, even before they’re formally part of our library.” If Nvidia isable to figure out how users can play any of their digital games on GeForce NOWit will make it the most friendly platform to gamers. This will give it a hugeadvantage over their competitors.
