Featured New Indie Releases 01/12/2025 - 01/18/2025

I’m back after a holiday break, and oh wow the new year has started off with a bang. Let’s dive in looking at the new indie releases for this week. Hopefully there’s something that catches your interest! Games are in alphabetical order.

Airborne Empire

$29.99 USD on Steam

Here we have the follow-up to Airborne Kingdom entering early access! This appears to be a city builder with the idea being the city itself flies around. Reviews report it being a chill cozy time that takes about 12 hours to see all content.

Blade Chimera

$19.99 USD

The Wonder Labyrinth devs return with a brand new cyberpunk metroidvania. It’s a pretty straightforward edition to the genre, but one that shouldn’t be overlooked. Team Ladybug knows what they’re doing, and they make good games. While reviews say they game is rather short and linear, they do seem to praise the game play itself, and say it’s a fun experience. Let’s be real too—a game being short and linear is not a bad thing.

Broken Alliance

$14.99 USD

Placeholder Games is back with their new game. I’ve been really excited for this game every since I learned of it’s existence and I am so glad it’s out in early access. Broken Alliance is a HoMM inspired game with gorgeous pixel art. There were multiple HoMM inspired games that came out last year, but in my opinion the more the merrier. The game will have four different factions with only one being currently playable. Also there’s a character creator to build your hero however you please, and even choose the mount. Cool, right?

Dealer’s Life Legend

$17.99 USD

The Dealer’s Life games are a very popular set of a games that I have never played, and know nothing about. However, this will probably be a big deal to someone! The series branches out into a fantasy version of their game with players being a traveling Dwarf merchant. While the setting is different, the gameplay from the core series is here with improvements and tweaks on the Dealer’s Life formula. This title launched in early access, and currently has about 8-12 hours of game play.

Heroes of Hammerwatch II

$17.99 USD

The sequel to Heroes of Hammerwatch is out, and seems to be a notable improvement upon the first. The game is an action rouge like with progression and town building. There’s the option to play solo, or with up to four friends (I believe). There are lots of options for building a party and lots of content to unlock. Overall, while there’s nothing that especially stands out with the storytelling or gameplay, what makes this notable is that it’s a well-done game that plays well, and looks great to boot.

Hyper Life Breaker

$29.99 USD

There once was a little known indie game called Hyper Life Drifter. That’s a joke. Haha. Very funny. Hyper Life Drifter was actually a really big deal. Now the devs are back with a brand new game launching in early access. The big notable change for Hyper Life Breaker is the shift from 2D to 3D, with according to reviews, very mixed results. But hey, it wouldn’t be right to do a list of new indie games and not mention this game. Someone would complain.

The Roottrees Are Dead

USD $19.99

As the title says, The Roottress are now dead. Very dead. Deader then dead. Now it’s up to you, our hero, to canvas the internet from 1998 to find out who’s there blood relations AKA the people who are going to inherit their vast fortune. Piece together clues and build the family tree. Now this seems exactly like the sort of the thing I’d love, and I can’t wait to check it out.

Threefold Recital

$14.99 USD

Threefold Recital is an adventure game that allow players to swap between three different Beastling characters with different abilities to save the city. Looks cute and fun. I’m in.

See you all next week!
