Extra Coin [Review]
Extra Coin is an excellent story-focused game with a unique concept on dealing with loss and depression. In the world of Extra Coin, people search for peace and happiness in virtual reality. The overall tone of the game is enhanced by the catchy music and visually appealing aesthetic. There are also a lot of Easter eggs right from the start of the game. Mika's bedroom has an Iron Man poster. An Akira poster, The Terminator, and many more. It was fun to see all the pop culture icons all over the game. The main character, Mika, while in the virtual world runs into many complications as this is her first time in VR, so she doesn't know her way around.
As a game with a focus on storytelling, Extra Coin immerses its players in the lives of people who are living in the digital realm. Our main character Mika is in search of her parents, who abandoned her and left her with their grandfather, who insists her parents did not want her. Mika then goes into the digital world to seek them out. Mika believes her parents are lost in the digital world, much like Sword Art Online. This game provides users with a plethora of things to do with explorations and mini-games. The main minigame is an interesting spin on the Pong Series/Tennis, making it a unique, fun, and engaging experience. Extra Coin is available for Nintendo Switch for $6.49 and Steam for $4.99.
