Dynacat [Review]

Dynacat is Sonic 3D Blast and the standard Sonic the Hedgehog games combined into one. Players will speed through the game with an asymmetrical camera angle through large stages. The stage design is the standard point A to point B gameplay. One thing that separates Dynacat from Sonic is the sparkly chain the character uses for their homing attack and to grab intractable stage boosters such as, bounce pads and polls to whip around and quickly change your character's direction. The asymmetric camera can be a huge problem sometimes as the camera is a bit too close, and often enemies or even an open gap can slow down the momentum. Boss fights are where this game shines. You have to use the mechanics and abilities of the character to figure out how to take out each boss.

The game does not insult the players' minds and allows you to figure out what to do in every given situation, like any game that came out before 2006. This game has your typical sonic-like stages called action stages. Action stages are your general point A to point B stage design. Sometimes it's hard to know exactly where to go in this game, so players will regularly wander around until you get to the end. With the asymmetric camera, traveling doses make traversal a bit difficult. Spheron stages: these stages offer several forks in the road. Secrets can be found, and there's an ending objective to complete.

lastly, just like in Sonic, you can find crystals similar to chaos emeralds and do a special stage. This game is entertaining to play. Some minor changes can make the experience better, for example, an adjustable camera for distance, and lastly, the character movement should be a bit smoother. Dynacat is a great game that does scratch that Sonic fan game itch. This game definitely isn't for everyone, but at $20, I can easily recommend it. Dynacat is available for the Xbox family of consoles and Steam.
