Dragon Ball Super: Broly Trailer Breakdown SDCC 2018
By: RogueSymbioteSan Diego Comic Con starts strong with the release of a brand new trailer for the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie. Akira Toriyama had previously confirmed that Broly would be the main antagonist for the upcoming film. This will be Akira Toriyama's first crack at an actual Broly storyline as he recently revealed that he had almost no involvement with the anime during the previous Broly movie releases. This film will officially canonize Broly into the Dragon Ball universe.Let me make something clear, I have been a fan of Broly since I saw his first film. I still have my Super Battle Collection (golden hair variant) Broly figure that I found at a swap meet when I was a kid. Hell, I went to Hot Topic and the butt-crack of dawn to make sure I got my summer exclusive Broly Funko Pop! With that being said, his motivation to hate Goku for making him cry as a baby is a bit... dumb. If you need further evidence of the stupidity of that concept, check out the parody version of Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan by TeamFourStar. It's amazing and deserves to be seen by everyone. Now why bring all that up? Because Akira Toriyama is a BEAST and already revealed that he has updated the legendary super saiyan to be a more well rounded character. I can't wait to see what he has altered and brought to this fan-favorite character. Enough with the set up, time to talk about this trailer!Inspired by the events during the tournament of power, Goku aims to become even stronger. A new saiyan named Broly arrives and emits extremely powerful energy. Broly takes on Vegeta, Goku and Frieza?! Wait... Did Goku just turn Super Saiyan Blue to take on a base form Broly?! It's clear that this new threat will push our heroes further than ever before. I didn't think anyone would be as imposing as Jiren, but a berserk mode Broly is unmatched. Even in a short trailer, we see a variety of animation styles. One of my concerns with the later episodes of Dragon Ball Super was the inconsistent animation. I liked what I saw in the trailer so I hope that quality is maintained throughout the film. I'm curious to see if Beerus' order of Frieza to destroy of Planet Vegeta comes to light in this film. That bombshell could seriously affect Goku and Vegeta's relationship with Beerus. And why is Frieza around? I'm so ready for this movie!
