Deepest Trench [Review]
Deepest Trench is a disappointing game with graphics that resemble those of the original Xbox, despite claims of “breathtaking” visuals. It clearly draws inspiration from games like “It Takes Two” and “A Way Out” but doesn't live up to expectations. The story is predictable and uninspired, following two divorced characters forced to work together on an underwater military operation. The controls are clunky, the voice acting is unbearable, and the characters are insufferable. The predictable love story between the two main characters is filled with clichés and lacks depth. It's the same old “Oh, what are you doing here?” “Ugh, I don't want to work with you,” “Ugh, we're the only ones who can do it,” or “Ugh, we're divorced because we both suck” kind of thing.
The antagonist is one-dimensional and is evil for the sake of being evil, and the ending is unremarkable. The gameplay is slow and tedious, with frustrating mechanics like the air meter and battery collection. While the music is enjoyable, it's not enough to redeem the game's shortcomings. The final mission perfectly encapsulates the game's flaws. One player is subjected to a repetitive submarine course, while the other completes pointless puzzles. The submarine section is excessively long and tedious, and the occasional shark encounter does little to add excitement. Overall, Deepest Trench fails to deliver a satisfying gaming experience due to its subpar graphics, poor voice acting, insufferable characters, and uninspired gameplay.
