Days - Episode 9 (Review)

A portion of the final game of the tournament, and against a team that that can go toe-to-toe with Seiseki. Both teams have their own respective “monsters” who will look to impose their will on the match, and tip the balance in their team’s favor.The action on the field is non-stop and fun to watch. Seiseki gets aggressive at the beginning of the match and almost pays for it by getting hit with a counterattack. The counterattack also seems to buoy the other team as they begin to boss the game around, with Seiseki stuck playing exclusively on their end of the field.The issue is compounded because of the opposing team’s skillful #10. He causes fits amongst the Seiseki defenders and rejoices in the fact that they look defeated. This player is a perfect embodiment of a “#10.” He’s quick, has incredible ball control and is by far and away the best player on his team.Through all of this one of the players on the opposing team recognizes that Seiseki is playing at a much higher level. A team being pushed by something, or someone. A certain someone that the rest of the players don’t want to fall behind. This exposes another layer of how Tsukushi has been an impact player for Seiseki, even if he isn’t a starter.As usual Tsukushi is able to imbue his teammates with energy, which settles them down. This allows them to switch the field and alleviate the pressure. It’s in this swing in the game’s momentum that we see Seiseki’s captain come to the fore, putting an immense amount of pressure on the other team.The captain isn’t just trying to win the game, though. He is actively trying to send a message to Tsukushi who is watching from the sidelines. With this we see Tsukushi’s demeanor completely change. Going from clumsy cheerleader to someone who is aching to get into the game and make a difference. Message received.The next episode of Days looks to be just as good as this one. It will be interesting to see how Seiseki is able to handle the opposition’s #10, and if Tsukushi will come on to the field with his new sense of purpose.Days can be viewed on Crunchyroll, new episodes debut Saturday at 3:30PM EDT.
