Where do I even start. I thought Cupcake Jester was peak Jester. How wrong I was. But first, let's talk about the rest of the story before this week's dramatic reveal!

Jester hurriedly drags the Nein away from Isharnai's creepy hut. She promises that everything is fine but they definitely need to run. As they make their escape into the dark, spooky, haunted swamp both Caleb and Jester realize they have not come prepared with the spells to make a run for it. They are stuck overnight in this awful place. Just as they come to grips with this, a roving pack of disgustingly fast Boomer-like zombies descend onto the Nein.

After wasting precious time and energy taking down several zombies, and attracting a dozen more, the best decision seems to be hunker down and wait for morning. Caleb pops up his little bubble hut while Fjord distracts the zombies with an illusionary blue dragon.

The Nein pile into the bubble fort and try to settle in for a long, moist, uncomfortable night. There are some adorable moments in the bubble hut as the Nein get some rest. Fjord, Yasha, Jester, Nott, and Caleb all share words of support and love for Beau who had a bit of a moment with the Hag. Fjord's talk seemed to have an especially emotional impact on Beau and the group. Beau then led an exhausted group in a relaxing meditation with the background noises of Zombie growls and swamp bugs.

The night nearly passes without another interruption until a familiar face pops up during Jester's watch. Her beloved deity The Traveler beckons her out into a secluded area of the swamp.

Based on the reactions of the rest of the cast, they were so sure something awful was about to happen to Jester. But Laura, ever the role playing queen, dives right into following The Traveler into the swamp. Much to everyone's surprise, the Traveler finally removes his cloak and shows his face to a stunned Jester.

The moment we've all been waiting for is finally here! The fans had called it from the very beginning. Our beloved trickster god The Traveler has been pulling a long con this whole time. The utterly memorable, unpredictable Archfey Artagan has resurfaced! And posing as a God nonetheless.

For those who haven't seen campaign 1, Artagan, or Garmelie as he briefly was known, harassed and then helped the Mighty Nein as they traversed through the fey wilds searching for Saundor and Synghorn during the Chroma Conclave arc. He presented himself as a raunchy, chaotic satyr who drew lewd caricatures of Vox Machina. He has a deep hatred of the theater, which is ironic for someone so dramatic and theatrical in real life. He also once strangled Vax to death just for the fun of it.

Now that it has officially been confirmed, Artagan's influence on Jester is rather obvious. From the adoration of chaos for chaos' sake down to the love of dick jokes and nearly identical sketchbooks filled with comically inappropriate drawings, it's perfect. I also can't finish without mentioning that Jester's Modify Memory moment was so clutch that she impressed her fake deity to the point where he said, "she's the one. She can help me get out of this mess." New goals in life, be so amazing that a God comes to you for help.

I can't wait to see what The Traveler has to say for himself and how Jester handles the pressure of his revelation. Dive into another Critical Role Review coming your way soon!
