The upcoming Chicken Police sequel looks like it’ll deliver more hard-boiled adventure!

Developer The Wild Gentlemen has released a demo of their upcoming adventure game sequel Chicken Police: Into the HIVE! for Steam Next Fest. The game is a follow-up to the award winning Chicken Police: Paint it RED!, also a hard-boiled sleuthing adventure.

The demo includes a handful of location to explore a snippet of the game’s mystery. Star detectives Sonny and Marty must venture into the Hive, a segregated part of town controlled by insects, in order to solve a murder case brought to them by a mysterious hooded lady.

The demo includes an option to play the game in color, but why would I ever do that? The game is a noir tale, best played in stylish black and white. The game’s graphics consist of animated photo collage and lush 3D backgrounds, and they work beautifully to immerse you in the game’s atmosphere.

Gameplay is point-and-click adventuring at its best. The protagonists don’t walk through the scenes, rather the player must just click on hotspots to examine or interact with. A helpful button will highlight points of interest for the player, so there’s no pixel hunting to be found here. The player also has access to an inventory suitcase, where items can be examined, combined, pulled out to use in the environment.

Into the HIVE! is a very talky game, with lots of dialogue between the chicken detectives themselves and with characters encountered in the game. The writing and voice acting are top notch, so its a pleasure to listen to and read the copious dialogue; it brings out characters’ personalities in the often funny interactions and moves the story along.

Check out the Chicken Police: Into the HIVE! demo on Steam (PC and Mac) and wishlist the game! This is one that adventure game fans shouldn’t miss.
