Charismagic Vol. 3 Issue 4 (Comic Book Review)

As the Magic Harvester continues to gain power, magic creatures and users are subject to destruction. The Contessa allows tragedy to befall the guests of the Magic House out of self preservation. There are still a few who would oppose this ancient evil.
Story Arc
Corpses cover the floor of the Magic House. As Contessa explains the reason for sacrificing of her magical associates to Sparkles, Jerry and Munchy crash their semi truck through the walls and incapacitate the seductress. Sudana was able to distract the Magic Harvester and the Order long enough for Jerry and Munchy to escape with their lives. While still caged, Hank tries to recruit a druid prisoner named Kelroy to aid in his escape. The druid is hesitant as he recognizes the threat this ancient magic user being poses.The Magic Harvester reveals that he existed before the planets were forged. When matter began form, his race of godlike beings created life as mortals know it. Even magic creatures were formed, but their lust for power led to greed and destruction. The Harvester wanted to use magic for peace and creation, not for selfish purposes. After a clash among the magic beings, only the Harvester and another female entity remained. They fell in love, but were eventually torn apart by their opposing beliefs. She attempted to destroy him, but this betrayal resulted in her death. His mission to reset the magic of the world is not to be vindictive, but to bring a new age of hope and peace.Jerry and Munchy break Hank and Kelroy from their cages. Kelroy agrees to join them on their mission, but explains that they are going to need a lot of help. Kelroy pans the room to show the massive collection of magic users imprisoned by Contessa. Their party just got a lot bigger... and scarier. The Magic Harvester professes to be a creator as he and the Order raise massive beings from the earth.
Comic Review
Charismagic continues to expound on the magical world. We finally get the origin of the Magic Harvester. His motivations to create peace out of destruction lack uniqueness, but I absolutely love his character design. I wish there was more detail behind his decisions. The backstory deserves more than just 3 pages, but these books are meant to be fast pace. It would have added a lot to the overall arc if the entire issue was devoted to the origin of these ancient beings. I don't feel on board with the Harvester's actions which appear to have been the intention of this issue. Here's hoping there's more to his story than what we've seen so far.This was more of an exposition issue than anything else. It's clear that a major confrontation is coming and this was just part of the set up. There is something different about this issue than the previous 3. I hope that the next issue brings that spark back to the writing. I'm still really enjoying the unique art style. The pacing is very well done. There is never a lull in this arc. The first 3 issues kept me on my toes so I hope that sense of chaos and uncertainty picks up in issue 5.
