Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card - Episodes 18 - 20 (Review)

By: EyeSpyeAlexAfter a brief hiatus, I am finally caught up on Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear card. Need to catch up too? Check out my previous review here.These latest episodes provided us with even more mysteries to solve. Unfortunately, we only have one recent card capture, “Blaze”, which Sakura captures with Syaoran’s assistance. The first mystery we encounter is during this capture. Part of the reason Syaoran is able to subdue Blaze is due to him whispering something unintelligible. When Sakura asks him about it he simply ignores the question.There’s also a big focus on powers increasing. While Sakura is capturing Blaze, Toya senses that Sakura is not in her room. His suspicion is confirmed upon opening Sakura’s door and not seeing her in there. When Yue questions his increasing powers, Toya tells him that it’s not time for him to reveal that information.Sakura’s powers are also growing at a surprisingly fast rate. After joining Akiho in reading to a group of children, Sakura reveals that she was using “Record” the whole time to capture the performance.  However, when she commands the Record card to play, she finds out that she recorded a scene from the past. Sakura later uses this to her advantage when she visits her great-grandfather. While in her mother’s old room, Sakura uses Record to view scenes of Nadeshiko’s childhood. The heartwarming scene quickly takes a turn when Nadeshiko urges Sakura to step as going any further will not allow her to return.Right after this happens, both Sakura and Akiho fall into a shared dream. They both dream of the clock room, and both are woken up before Sakura can share the name of the mysterious figure. As Syaoran and Sakura’s great-grandfather attend to Sakura, Kaito attends to Akiho and gets her settled for bed. Once she is asleep, Kaito comments to Momo that the synchronization is nearly complete. Meanwhile, Kero and Yue finally meet with Eriol to discuss Sakura’s growing powers.It is more than a little disappointing that these latest episodes had little to do with the Clear Cards and only provide us with more questions. With two episodes left in the series, we should be wrapping up plot lines, not creating more. Despite all these mysteries we also haven’t had much in terms of character development. Both Sakura and Syaoran are still stuck in relationship limbo and neither seems eager to fix that situation. The animation continues to be stunning, but it does little to fix the problems with the plot. Hopefully these final two episodes provide us with the answers (and plot) that we’re looking for.New episodes of CardCaptor Sakura: Clear Card air Sundays on Crunchyroll and VRV platforms.
