Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card - Episodes 10 & 11 (Review)

By: EyeSpyeAlex and RaeAfter a week of working on backlogs, we’re all caught up on Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card. Need to catch up too? Check out our previous episode review here!In an effort to return the favor, Sakura invites Akiho over to her house. The pair enjoy cookies prepared by Kaito while chatting in Sakura’s room when a ball of light appears. The ball of light swirls around Akiho, causing her to suddenly fall asleep. After attempting to wake Akiho up with no success, Sakura and Kero chase after the light. As they head outside to continue the chase, they find their house and neighborhood are suddenly in a labyrinth. Sakura attempts to use Siege to catch the light, but the box quickly disappears. Trying a new tactic, Sakura uses Gravitation so that she and Kero can flank the light. She quickly secures the light, revealing the card “Snooze”. This does nothing to get rid of the labyrinth, so once again Sakura uses secure on her surrounding, leading to the capture of “Labyrinth”.The next day at school, Sakura tells Tomoyo and Syaoran what happened during Akiho’s visit when Tomoyo makes a startling realization. Snooze and Labyrinth are extremely similar to the Sleep and Maze Clow Cards. This realization has Sakura noticing that all the Clear Cards she’s captured have a Clow Card doppelganger. The mysteries only grow when Syaoran meets Kaito as he, Sakura, Tomoyo, and Akiho head home from school. Once he’s home, Syaoran calls Eriol and tells him that he sensed a magical power coming from Akiho’s caretaker, Yuna D. Kaito. While Eriol doesn’t know Kaito personally, he does tell Syaoran that the D could stand for his magician power level. Because Syaoran sensed the power level and Sakura didn’t it’s a good indicator that much like Syaoran, Kaito draws his power from the moon. While at home herself, Sakura suddenly senses a Clear Card. She and Kero head off to find the source, only to discover the playground penguin has been turned upside down! Not only that, something is flipping over all of the playground equipment. Sakura attempts to confront the being, but is flipped upside-down herself. She makes a second attempt while using Flight, and successfully captures the “Reversal” card while upside down. The commotion causes quite the crowd to gather at the playground, so Sakura and Kero quickly leave to avoid blame. While it’s great that we’re finally starting to connect the puzzle pieces of the Clear Cards, it’s happening at way too slow of a pace. On top of that, the show seems to be rubbing in how identical Sakura’s interactions with the Clear Cards are to her interactions with the Clow Cards. At best this is just a failed attempt at teasing the audience, and at worst lazy writing. Either way, rubbing the audiences’ face in it is not a good way to keep fans interested in the show. We’re all here to see the continuing adventures of Sakura - not just to relive our first experience. Clear Card has a great foundation to build off of, and we really hope it starts to take advantage of this, instead of relying so much on the nostalgia factor.New episodes of Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card air Sunday's on Crunchryoll and VRV platforms.
