Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Episode 2

By EyeSpyAlex and RaeIt's already been a week - and that means a new episode of Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card! Does the second episode of the highly anticipated series measure up to the first? Here's what we thought...Syaoran and Tomoyo are just as confused by the appearance of the clear cards as Sakura is. Like Sakura and Kero, Syaoran doesn’t sense any new or unusual power behind them. The seemingly normal cards present a new mystery for the group to solve.Soon enough, the mystery is set aside as everyone starts thinking about after school clubs. Sakura wants to join cheerleading, while Syaoran cryptically says he has things to take care of before he can fill his time with anything. Sakura and Tomoyo continue their discussion into their sleepover. As the girls hang out in the kitchen with Toya, he seems increasingly suspicious of Kero.To make matters worse, the girls and Kero are in Sakura’s room when they suddenly find themselves trapped in a mysterious rubber room. Tomoyo is able to break them free and Sakura captures the new card just in time for a suspicious Toya to drop in and check on them. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world,Eriol and Spinnel discuss when the time will be right to reach out to Sakura again. One of the charms of CCS (and shoujo in general) is how Sakura still has a normal school life going on despite her magical girl status. CardCaptor Sakura: Clear Card manages to keep this up quite well, though at points it seemed like the clear cards deserved a little more attention. The card fight in this episode was handled quite quickly, with most of the focus being on cute shenanigans and costumes. We're looking forward to episodes where there's a little more depth to the situation at hand - similar to the mysteries that the original series sometimes set up when Sakura was trying to track down a Clow card. However, the nostalgia factor is still pretty strong, and still with its updated feel. Sakura’s friends have longer appearances in this episode, and they’re the same sidekicks we knew and loved in the original series. It even includes a cute nod to some of Sakura's most recognizable costumes throughout the years. Despite some issues with the plot, the animation of Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card continue to impress. One thing that stands out is the floral background that is used frequently in the episode. The flowers chosen appear to compliment the characters’ personality or outfit, and really add another layer of beauty to an already stunning show. Honestly, the colour palette and animation in general are absolutely beautiful - something we hope will continue to impress throughout the season. New episodes of Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card air Sundays on Crunchyroll and VRV platforms.
