Boston Comic Con Preview

By: EyeSpyeAlexSummer is here and the convention season is well underway. Up this weekend on the east coast is Boston Comic Con! Presented by Fan Expo, Boston Comic Con is in its tenth year of celebrating fans of different fandoms. Their lineup this year proves their devotion to the fans, as they are hosting comic artists, actors, and cosplayers. This year also boasts the final east coast convention appearance of Stan Lee, which is sure to draw a crowd.Boston Comic Con has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Starting as a one day event in 2007, Boston Comic Con has grown into a 3-day extravaganza. Having been held at different convention centers over the years, it has found a home this year at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. I hope that the convention is able to plant roots at the BCEC so they can continue to grow. I think a solid home for the convention would help Boston become recognized as a beacon of pop and nerd culture in New England. This in turn may allow them to foster some industry events, similar to New York Comic Con.With a big focus on the fans, there's a lot I am looking forward to this weekend. I will definitely be checking out some of the cosplay events, such as the Costume Contest. There's also a lot of intro to cosplay panels where I can definitely learn a thing or two. Cosplay icons Jessica Nigri and Leanna Vamp will be holding a cosplay Q&A on Saturday. “Lady Bane” aka Nicole Marie Jean, along with Monika Lee, Soni Aralynn, Riddle, and Heather, will be hosting a cosplay Q&A on Sunday. Both will definitely be worth checking out to get those cosplay questions answered by some of the best!In addition to a ton of cosplay events, there’s a focus on some big names in the comic book and film industry. On Friday Stan Lee will be hosting a panel discussing the world of super heroes he has created. As it is his final east coast appearance, this is an event that you won’t want to miss! Wrapping up the weekend, Alan Tudyk will be hosting a panel showcasingo his new web series “Con Man”. Given Alan’s capabilities as an actor, it will be awesome to see him in a directing role.Boston Comic Con will be happening this weekend, August 11th through the 13th. Information about the convention can be found here.
