Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Impure King Arc Recap 1-4

By: BellaKaibaDespite it this first episodes are pretty self-explanatory you might want to watch Blue Exorcist's first season to have a better grasp on the show's bigger picture, so it is more enjoyable. This arc is NOT a continuation on were the show left off at the end of season 1. Timeline wise the Kyoto Impure King Arc is placed somewhere after the events of episodes 14-16 (NO SPOILERS! Sorry! You will have to watch it!)

This arc starts with Rin and his friends -lead by Shura- making a trip to Kyoto were Myohda and True Cross' branch require imediate aid after being attacked by mysterious forces that tried to recover the Impure King's Right Eye. Meanwhile Yukio has to hunt down an ex-True Cross' academy teacher (who is now a demon) that stole the Left Eye.

We get introduced to Shima's, Konekomarus' and Ryuji's family members and learn more about their pasts. Shiro's got very on-point-flashback scenes that let us know more about his character and his individual relationship with both Rin and Yukio (which by the looks of it, will play a big part in this season's events).

A good thing that you can notice, if you are a returning Blue Exorcist fan; is that some characters have gone through touch ups and minor re-design, which gives a nice touch despite the low paced season start. A huge part of this first four episodes is more centered on character interaction and character development, so it is not very action paced like the original series, but as the arc makes progress and the mysteries start to unravel the action picks up at the right moment.

If you are a fan you will probably like it as it is a great adaptation from the manga (as far as all the episodes that have come out). In case you are just discovering the franchise it is a great excuse to watch the first season! Overall the show has great music, gorgeous animation, great comic relief scenes and the right dose of feels.
