Bem Feito [Review]
Bem Feito, published by QUByte Interactive and developed by oiCabie, is a horror life sim game tied into an in-game creepypasta story. The game has two layers. The first is virtual desktop (Garotron OS) with files to explore and an emulator for in-game console Jogaroto, along with a ROM for its ownly game, Bem Feito. The second layer is the Bem Feito game within the game.
Bem Feito is billed as a best-selling game released in 1999 that for mysterious reasons no one seems to remember today. As you play Bem Feito, you learn passwords that let you unlock files on the Garotron OS that flesh out the creepypasta story written by someone investigating the game’s history.
The Bem Feito game within the game is a 32-bit styled life sim, where the player helps Reginaldo complete a to-do list of tasks around his house on his tiny home planet and make friends with visitors that arrive each day. The game gets progressively creepier based on the choices you make.
Bem Feito is a short experience; I got the platinum trophy within around two hours. While the concept is solid and the technical execution is good—aside from some annoyances around unskippable dialogue and animations—there’s a lot of lost potential here. The creepypasta story isn’t scary enough and lacks depth; it feels like it ends when it’s really just beginning. Similarly, as the source of the creepypasta, the Bem Feito game just isn’t unsettling enough. Rather than allowing the player to explore and be surprised, you’re explicitly given the choices that lead to going down the dark rabbit hole. The result is that the game feels like a rough draft of a concept that has legs but just isn’t sufficiently developed.
I hope to see more games from oiCabie, to see what the studio does on a larger canvas. I see a lot of potential if they develop the ideas in Bem Feito into something bigger.
Bem Feito is available now on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
