Avengers: Infinity War Trailer Review

[arve url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZfuNTqbHE8" /]The Avengers: Infinity War trailer has just dropped and it is glorious! Ever since Ironman was released back in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has continued to grow and evolve. 16 films later, soon to be 17 once Black Panther comes out early next year, we will be witnessing the culmination of a decade long cinematic buildup. 10 years of character development is about to payoff in a major way. Now lets talk about this trailer already. Spoiler Warning: I will be talking about major plot points from other MCU films so if you are not caught up, continue reading at your own risk.

Trailer Highlights

The facial hair bros live!!! If you're a comic book fan, you probably know that Tony Stark and Stephen Strange are lovingly referred to as a pair based on their facial hair. We see Tony, Stephen, Wong and Bruce Banner inside of Doctor Strange's home and then witness devastation out in the street. We've only had a two minute trailer and already we get to see some fun team-ups to be had in this film. After Spider-Man: Homecoming, we were all desperate to see Peter don that new suit and this trailer does not disappoint. We see young Mr. Parker in what will presumably be referred to as the Iron Spider armor. Many were expecting to see this suit in Civil War based on the comic book run, but it feels like Spidey will definitely need the upgrade in order to face off against the Mad Titan. Judging by the smackdown Thanos throws on Peter, maybe he needed an even better suit... The suit pops on screen and I can't wait to see the young Avenger in action.

What is Loki up to? We saw him eye the tesseract in Thor: Ragnarok and it was confirmed that he swiped the infinity stone from Asgard. The trailer left his allegiance vague as the god of mischief tends to play for whatever side best suits him. The end credit scene from Thor: Ragnarok showed what is most likely Thanos' ship. Is  Loki handing the tesseract over to Thanos or is he trying to protect the massive population that currently resides on their ship? Loki may play a major role and it'll being exciting to see how his story unfolds.Captain America returns!... With a beard! Chris Evans comes out of the shadows and shows he is a force to be reckoned with. He faces off against a mystery villain who is most likely a member of Thanos' evil cohort. We then see him lead a plethora of heroes in what appears to be Wakanda. We have yet to encounter the 6th infinity stone and it looks like Thanos has unleashed an alien army on the African nation. Could the final stone be hidden somewhere in Wakanda? Many theories believe the final stone is in Heimdall's eyes, but that might just be a misdirect. Captain America, Black Widow, Black Panther, War Machine, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Hulk and a Wakandan army against a formidable alien horde... Count me in!!! Side not, very excited to see how much Black Panther will set up this film as it is the final film before Infinity War comes out.Thanos has arrived!!! And he finally got out of his giant space chair. Not only do we get to see Thanos do more than turn around, but he throws down with Ironman and Spiderman while rocking the Infinity Gauntlet. It appears as though the Mad Titan has already acquired two infinity stones and is not stopping until he obtains them all. The CGI work looks absolutely incredible. I'm ready to see some serious villainy from this big bad.

The Hulkbuster armor returns and with so new upgrades I expect. The suit was last scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It'll be exciting to see if Thanos and the Hulkbuster go toe to toe or if the Mad Titan has some powerful friends with him. The final moment of the trailer shows Thor meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy. It is clear that Thor and his people run into some serious problems on their way to a new home. The trailer from D23 showed Thor landing on the Guardian's ship which indicates that Thanos may have destroyed his ship and people. This may be a superhero movie, but some dark times are ahead.

Thoughts

This trailer is fantastic. The music sets the perfect tone, the interactions between characters are exciting and the action is spot on. Even though I am excited to see how things all come together, I do not believe everyone is making it out of this movie alive. The Avengers team and the MCU is going to be significantly altered as a result of this film. I really hope Marvel makes some brave choices and lives up to the hype that has been building around this film since it was announced. With such high expectations, there is a very real chance that the film may disappoint. Thanos has been such a long time coming that if he doesn't prove to be the villain we all hope for, the film will take a hit... With that being said however... I am not worried about this film. The Russo brothers have a proven track record with both Captain America: Winter Soldier and Civil War under their belts. They know how to blend humor, action and dark undertones all while juggling a massive cast. After 10 years of MCU films, I am even more excited for Infinity War than I have ever been for any other Marvel movie. May of next year can not come soon enough. Let me know what you thought of the trailer! Do you think this movie is going to be amazing or fall short of expectations?
