Avatar: The Last Airbender Teaser

Today, Netflix dropped a teaser for their upcoming live-action series adaptation of Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. The show will premiere February, 2024.

The visual design of the show looks spot on; the trailer is filled with clearly recognizable character designs and costumes. However, the teaser is devoid of any of the fun from the original animated show, which is something that Netflix captured successfully in their One Piece adaptation. Original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko left the show due to creative differences, which doesn’t bode well either. I’m not a stickler for adaptations being totally faithful to their source material—generally I believe filmmakers should understand the spirit of the original. Whether this show will succeed remains to be seen.

At least I’m sure it’ll be better than M. Night Shyamalan’s disastrous 2010 adaptation.
