Attack on Titan Episode 38 [Review]

By: ThunderheavyarmFollowing the betrayal from Ymir, Bertholdt and Reiner and the discovery that the titans within the wall were inhabitants of Connie’s village, Eren, Historia and the others in the new Levy squad have gone into hiding. Hange attempts to experiment with Eren trying to get him to retake his titan form, something he wasn’t able to do following his encounter with the “Smiling Titan”. Filled with amazing intrigue and a new character, season 3 kicks things off with a much bigger bang than season 2.Well once the weird music gets going. I wasn’t as much of a fan of it, although as the story progressed it became more in tone with the episode. But that didn’t stop it from being amazingly off putting since I was expecting the psuedo-germanic choir. But enough with the opening, you want to know if the episode is worth watching.We’re still very far away from where season one was in the department of action, and with two seasons passing without a strong opening, we can pretty much assume that the lightning is out of the bottle. But honestly, with other heavy action titles sharing the season, it’s better that we have something not trying to compete for that genre. So what’s in its place? A conspiracy against our main characters, causing the tone to switch to that of intrigue as the protagonists need to act from the shadows to save humanity rather than in the open.Sadly as always, the first episode of each season does so much set up for the rest of the season that there isn’t too much to talk about. At least for those of us that haven’t read the manga and know what’s coming already. I’m interested in the reveal at the end as the story takes a look deeper into Levy’s backstory and how it comes back to take shots at him...literally.
