Adore [Review]

Adore is a little creature collecting game adventure game that follows Lukha, a character touched by a god and is needed to resurrect the same god. Adore was developed by Cadabra Games and published by both Cadabra Games and QUByte Interactive. The game has fairly unique gameplay as the character you play has absolutely no way to fight or defend himself. Instead, the beast tamer finds creatures to take onto his team and fight for him. He had been touched by a falling piece of a dying god, who remained dormant inside of him until the god’s rival killed the child and awakened the god of beasts. He can resurrect Lukha and keep him safe with the condition that Lukha helps to resurrect the god as well so he can fight the rivaling god and save the people of the land from the dystopia they live in.

As expected, Lukha has a unique ability to tame the creatures he comes across (granted, he has enough magic to do so at least). You can take up to four of these creatures with you into a rogue-lite dungeon-crawling aspect of the game. Procedurally generated levels keep the dungeons from being the same over and over, as you can continuously go to the same area for more resources or creatures. The creatures you take can be renamed and upgraded to become more uniquely yours. You can also swap them out at the monument you respawn next to after either dying or finishing the dungeon. With such a small game, luckily, the issues are small as well. The audio mixing isn’t all that great and will require some playing around in the settings to get to a better point. There is also no voice acting. Not in itself a con, but the way the game presents itself it feels as if it should be narrated.

While the game is small and not much to talk about, it is interesting and has a very addictive gameplay style that I could get sucked into. The creatures, being the most important aspect of the game, also have very cool designs that make me want to have certain ones on my team. The game has no issues I’ve come across and is a solid title to sink some time into. Although I personally like Adore and games like it, it is hard to recommend as it’s a very specific type of game that not a lot of people seek out. It still deserves a score of 6/10 due to the many and cool-looking creatures you can collect and use on your team. Adore is available now on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series, Switch, and Steam.

6/10
