91 Days - Episode 9 (Review)

By: Rae[yasr_multiset setid=11] Due to a badly-timed illness this will be a shorter review than usual, but with the tension building up in episode 9, I just had to post!I’ll start by getting this out of the way – episode 9’s animation was definitely a lower quality at several times. Which is really unfortunate because I was kind of hoping it would get better, not worse. 91 Days has some great backgrounds and scenery, but their characters can occasionally be wonky, and this really highlighted that weakness. That said, the Vannettis have learned that it was Corteo who betrayed Nero, and who then murdered Fango. The ultimate plan is to kill him, but he escapes during his questioning by the family. Later that night, Avilio receives an ultimatum: Corteo is being held by someone else now, and if Nero isn’t bumped off within 24 hours, Corteo will die instead. The next day, Nero receives a huge surprise and honour – his father is officially making him the Don now. Of course, he brings Avilio with him, as a new member of the family. During a private celebratory dinner, Avilio considers murdering him – Nero is drunk, there is a knife nearby, and it would be so, so easy, with no witnesses. But instead, he decides to leave. As he begins to walk away, Nero reveals that he couldn’t bring himself to shoot anyone the night of the Lagusa family murder. Avilio isn’t really impressed by this, asking him what difference it makes if, now, he would be able to murder the child who got away?91-days-09-01This episode is low on action and high on dialogue, but it definitely builds to something big. Having been given just enough clues to finally figure it out, Avilio answers the series’ biggest question – who wrote him the letter about his family’s deaths?Catch 91 Days on Crunchyroll, Fridays @ 2:30PM EDT!
