Alright, moment of truth: if I didn’t have to write a weekly review, I would not have watched this episode. Here we are, 7 full episodes into a series that has been dramatic, thrilling, and full of “whoa!” moments. Most of the reviews have been positive, and even amongst the Mithical staff who are watching, conversations tend to start with “91 Days is so good!” So I was a little disappointed to find that – this early in the series – they’re bringing us episode 7.5. Which is really just a recap of the story so far.91 Days 7-5 02

If you didn't already know who this bad boy is, I admire your dedication to a series you haven't been paying any attention to.

I can’t say for sure since I don’t have the time to rewatch all the episodes, but I’m almost certain that this whole episode is recycled animation. The only real difference was the occasional voiceover, and an extra subtitle to occasionally name characters you're probably familiar with by now.If you’ve been watching 91 Days up until now, this episode should be completely familiar to you, and I can’t imagine a reason to watch it. It’s early enough in the season that all the events should be fairly fresh (especially as it mostly covers the big ones – the Lugasa family slaughter, meeting Nero, attempting to assassinate Fango, Ronaldo’s murder, etc).91 Days 7-5 03I will admit that I missed the very last scene of episode 7, where Avilio tells Nero that he’ll be his brother now. With how often it seems that Avilio is developing a deeper relationship with Nero, this one line makes his hand in Frate’s death seem so much more sinister. It was also interesting to return to the night of the Lagusa's family's murder. It's been so easy to comment on Avilio's cold and calculating betrayals and unhinged expressions. At this point, to return to that house and see the terrified face of a little boy hiding for his life made Avilio seem like a real person again. The fear and sadness on Angelo's face as he tiptoes past his dead family is almost more heartbreaking now than it was the first time.Still, it didn't give me any startlingly beautiful revelations or show any new information. If you're up to date, this is definitely an optional episode.91 Days 7-5 05If you haven’t been watching and think this is a good way to catch up without committing to the previous full episodes, please don’t fall for it. While Brief Candle covers some big moments, it only picks a handful.  These scenes are then trimmed down and absolutely stripped of the complex, nuanced relationships and characterizations that have made 91 Days so wonderful so far. Watch 1 through 7 instead - you won't regret it.
