3 Trailers from the Game of the Year Awards that have us Crazy Hyped

By: Mithrandiel

Well, in case you missed it, Geoff Keighley’s Game of the Year Awards took place on Thursday, and while an unnerving interruption at the end of the night may have put a damper on things, overall there were some pretty amazing reveals. We wanted to spotlight a few of the trailers that really got the hype machine rolling!

Armored Core VI (From Software)

Ok, first I just needed to gush for a minute about how much I love From Software, and how excited I am for some new Armored Core!

This trailer really delivers in a lot of ways - while it keeps things pretty ambiguous from a narrative perspective, the music is amazing, and there’s plenty of cinematic tension, which invites players to unpack this trailer and look forward to spending time in this world. First Sekiro, then the iconic Elden Ring this year…and now Armored Core VI is slated for 2023? Miyazaki is a madman…but I’m not complaining!

Hades II (Supergiant Games)

In the wake of arguably one of the most iconic titles in the history of the genre, SuperGiant Games took one look at their fanbase and said: We’ll f***in’ do it again!

With a stellar animated teaser from Spencer Wan (of Castlevania fame, among other top-shelf anime contributions), Hades II tells the story of Melinoe, daughter of Persephone and sister of Zagreus (protagonist of the original Hades). While Zagreus definitely had some issues to sort out, our protagonist has her sights set a tad higher - Chronos, Lord of Time, is her target. While we don’t have all the details just yet, the gameplay trailer seems to promise more of the frantic energy that made the first game so popular, with stellar voice acting and amazing character design in just the brief trailer. We are ready for more Hades - now!

Final Fantasy XVI (Square Enix)

Rounding out the list is a mainstay title for RPG fans, and with recent combat system refinements in XV and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, I’m very excited to see how gameplay turns out this time. The music is sweeping and epic, and the narrative appears to be a rather dark tale of revenge. All exciting building blocks to set the foundation for this latest installment in the franchise that serves as a pillar for RPGs. We can’t wait to see more!

Overall, 2023 is already shaping up to be an amazing year for gamers. These trailers are not helping when it comes to managing our patience!
