Polaris [Review]
Polaris is a PVE sci-fi co-op extraction shooter that appears to draw inspiration from games like Crackdown and Red Faction, blending them with a dash of Superman 64. It offers all the pre-alpha, unfinished, buggy goodness every player wants all together in one place. The game begins with a jarringly large menu with only three options: host lobby, join lobby, and private lobby. Players can then choose between a few missions and stages. Character selection is not available, and despite advertising claims, flying is not an inherent ability, but an item drop found within the map. There seems to be a way to start a mission with certain items, but the method remains unclear.
Missions start with the player being dropped from a ship, falling slowly until they hit the ground. Unlike games like Fortnite, there's no control over the fall. The graphics are subpar, with numerous glitches and bugs. Controls are decent, and flight, whether using a jetpack or a plane, is fairly well implemented.
However, the game is advertised as a playground of destruction, but the destruction is the degradation of the mind as you try to enjoy your time with this game. Polaris fails to live up to its advertised promise as a “playground of destruction.” The destruction is limited, everything you shoot just disintegrates, and the ground explodes into perfect squares, and the environment feels empty with few enemies, regardless of the mission. The overall experience is underwhelming, with little to do and a lack of engaging content. Polaris feels like it should have been released as an early-access title. Its current state as a full release is disappointing. The “extraction shooter” label seems misplaced, as the only extraction is the player logging off out of frustration.
a quick note i’m not sure what game is being played at but this is either a joke or just stoles name and idea? Two games. Same name. Same art. Just take a look.
