Our Most Anticipated (Geeky) Things Coming in 2024!

Well, 2023 is officially behind us for most of the world as of this writing, which means a fresh 366 (yay leap year!) days ahead of us, full of new video games, comics, movies and other geeky products to enjoy. Below is just a short list of a few of the things we’re really looking forward to here at The Geekly Grind.

Unicorn Overlord

From the creators of the fanciful (and beautiful) Odin Sphere, Unicorn Overlord is Vanillaware’s latest title, coming in a few short months to all major consoles.

This tactical RPG is already showcasing some incredible aesthetics in the combat screen, as well as teasing numerous in-depth systems that will no doubt bring tactics-minded players back for hours upon hours of fun. It’s certainly on our shortlist, and we look forward to digging into it once it arrives.

Batman: City of Madness #3

Christian Ward’s haunting tale of a corrupted, upside-down Gotham on the verge of invading Batman’s home-turf has already landed on numerous best of 2023 lists, and for good reason; with superb art, and crisp writing, it’s a fresh tale for the iconic crimefighter. The final issue of the trilogy is set to arrive just before Valentine’s day, and we know that we will be at our local comic shop bright and early to pick it up!

D&D 50th Anniversary - Releases

It’s the big 5-0 for Dungeons & Dragons in 2024, and Wizards of the Coast has a handful of exciting modules ahead for players to look forward to. With a new Player’s Handbook already confirmed, and a refresh on the Dungeon Master’s Guide and Monster Manual teased as well, it’s the upcoming Vecna: Eye of Ruin adventure that I’m particularly interested in. Centering around the legendary lich, it is set to take players to level 20 and culminate with a battle against Vecna himself. Seems like a great module to look forward to, and we are definitely eager to dig in.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Cour 2)

Those who have been on the Frieren train may have missed a new episode this past Friday, but fear not! The second cour of the show is due to kick off next Friday, 1/5, and is set to deliver more amazing narratives from the beloved manga. The show has already captured quite a bit of attention from anime fans, currently sitting as the highest rated show on MyAnimeList. With superb animation, great music, and an emotionally affecting narrative, Frieren is a well-rounded series that has quickly cemented itself as one of my favorites in recent years.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Of course, what list would be complete without calling out the next installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy? With the rails of Midgar behind them, gamers now have a much more open world to look forward to exploring, and based on some extensive previews already being shown, we know that there is quite a lot to look forward to. With a 40 hour core narrative and nearly 100 hours waiting for gamers in the wings in the form of side quests and bonus content, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth promises a continuation and expansion of this reimagined world.
