New Release Round-up 02/02/2025 - 02/08/2025

I continue to struggle with deciding how I want to write these weekly new release articles. Yet time continues to pass and we have made our way into February 2025. Things are not good in the real world right now for many of us, but the games are still great! I have also made the choice to cover the previous week's New Releases that I want to highlight rather than the current week, giving me some time to get more information about these games.

Last week 02/02/2025 - 02/08/2025 was jam packed full of games. There were bars ran by vampires, vampire therapists getting new clients, lofi beats to match 3 to,  a road trip RPG, some heroes with very big hats, and a roguelike inspired by Fire Emblem. Without further to do, let's dive right in.

Astral Throne

Let's start off with the Fire Emblem inspired SRPG Rougelike from Zero Sun Games.. Reviews state that the gameplay is quite crunchy, with lots of variety in how to build your team. This is one of those things that will make or break a roguelike, but it's hard to convey in writing I find. Basically, it feels really really good to play with each playthrough feeling different.

Do you need another roguelike? Quite possibly no. But if you're looking for one that's different from the pack, you could definitely do worse.

Be aware though, this game apparently has a save corruption bug for some people. I'm hoping that gets patched soon!

Astral Throne is $19.99 USD, and currently for sale for 10% off on Steam.

Big Helmet Heroes

Just in time for Steam Couch Co-op fest comes this game from Exalted Studio. Big Helmet Heroes is a 2 player co-op 3D beat-em up with all the silly vibes. You and your partner are these big headed chibi knight people who go off to save the princess. While this game still has some bugs, and has some baffling design choices (such as no online co-op) it seems to be a pretty fun way to kill an afternoon.  Currently $24.99 USD on Steam, and has a 20% off sale going on.

Blood Bar

Imagine if the Two Point series and World of Darkness had a video game baby.  The concept is such. You're a vampire. You need to harvest blood. The best way is to run a series of bars that's a front for harvesting people for blood. So you have to run really good bars or else people won't come, At the same time, you also don't want to be too obvious with the kidnappings, or you'll catch the eye of the local vampire hunters. Pretty great idea for a game in my opinion. Currently $19.99, with a 20% off sale.

Keep Driving

This is a pretty quiet yet cool concept for a game. It's the 2000's, you bought your first car, and now it's time for a road trip. Yet...I don't know how to not make a big deal of this because Keep Driving IS my dream game. It's an atmospheric road trip RPG that combines The Oregon Trail with roguelike elements. I may have gone through an Oregon Trail phase in my late teens early twenties, and always wanted something that scratches that itch. Well here is a game that does exactly that. If you needed any other endorsements, this is sitting at overwhelmingly positive on Steam. Currently $17.99 USD

Spirit Swap: Lofi Beats to Match 3 To

This seems to be the anti-Huniepop match-3 that the video game world has desperately needed. Killer music, wholesome story, the ability to romance or befriend anyone and just being full of queer joy, this game is a delight. I'm happy it exists. Currently $19.99 on Steam

Vampire Therapist: Couple's Therapy DLC

Vampire Therapist is where the World of Darkness spouse divorces the Two Point spouse, has a very traumatic break-up, and then settles down with a new Dream Daddy spouse and also seeks therapy. Okay so the metaphor kinda fell apart on me. But the point still stands. Vampire Therapist has more content. New content. Cheap content too. Right now I could use both a good laugh and good cry, so maybe this is exactly what the doctor ordered.  2.99 on Steam, though it requires the base game.

Well that's my round-up for the week. I missed a lot of games, I know, but I'm one only person and this article is already over 700 words.
