Mostroscopy [Review]

Mostroscopy, a luchador horror-themed fighting game, offers a unique and enjoyable experience despite its flaws. The game's controls are reminiscent of Super Smash Brothers, utilizing a simple two-button system combined with directional inputs to execute various attacks and charged moves. The roster boasts 16 unique characters, each contributing to the game's captivating theme and tone. However, the gameplay experience is marred by stiff movement and seemingly incomplete animations, detracting from the overall fluidity.

The game's visual presentation is inconsistent. While the classic monster stages, rendered in a striking black and white filter, exude a nostalgic charm, the color stages suffer from blurry visuals and clashing colors that create a less visually appealing experience. Further compounding the game's shortcomings is the uneven sound design. The disparity in volume between sound effects makes it challenging to find a comfortable audio setting. Additionally, balance issues among characters create an uneven playing field.

Despite these flaws, Mostroscopy manages to deliver an engaging and enjoyable gameplay experience, especially for those who can overlook its shortcomings. The game's unique theme, diverse roster, and accessible controls contribute to its overall appeal. Despite feeling a bit cheap and unpolished, Mostroscopy is still an enjoyable game overall. For players seeking a fun and quirky fighting game experience, Mostroscopy may be worth considering, particularly at a discounted price.
