Longvinter [Review]
Longvinter is a survival game similar to Rust that takes its visuals and overall aesthetic from Animal Crossing. Although the game looks identical to Animal Crossing for the Gamecube, fans of the Animal Crossing series who want a similar experience will probably want to avoid this game. Longvinter is more than it seems. It is a very fun and engaging survival game where players must investigate what is happening in the world around them. I had fun getting started in my world and trying to figure out what to do. First, I found a vending machine and got a tent. From there, I decided to cut down some trees to turn my tent into a house. Soon after, I did general things like fishing and sold the items to the vending machine in order to get a crossbow. I will note that I tried to kill a bird with my crossbow too close to a safe zone and was shot down by a safe zone turret. No violence is allowed near safe zones.
Longvinter also provides a list of quests listed on the right side of the screen. My first quest required me to have a map and GPS with a list of coordinates. After following the coordinates, I found many things that could be eaten and also killed a lynx that I was able to use as a mount. After much exploration, I found what seemed to be a military base and was shot on sight. This game has a lot of depth with its crafting and its gameplay. If you want to decorate and have a wonderful home like in Animal Crossing, you can do that. If you want to hunt, that is here too. This game can appeal to all audiences. A word of advice: Do not play on an open server. Play on a private server with friends or alone. The online community is toxic, with hacks, mods, and cheats. Also, people are not friendly.
