HP Omen Vector Wireless Mouse [Review]

Note: We received a review unit from OMEN in exchange for our honest review.

Gaming hardware is serious business. The right keyboard, the right mouse, a proper headset...gamers want to be set up for success.

They also want a tidy desk. Whether or not they keep the desk clean is another question, but if given the choice between having a wire or not having a wire, many gamers would opt for a wireless mouse - yet the offerings are few and far between.

Enter the OMEN Vector wireless mouse.

Complementing OMEN's gaming hardware lineup, including the Mindframe Prime headset that we recently reviewed, the OMEN Vector wireless mouse was designed with the gamer in mind at almost every level.

First: battery life. A full charge, which takes about 90 minutes, will provide you with 180 hours of use. Of course, gamers are busy people, and you just might have forgotten to plug it in for a night...or 30. Not to fear! A single minute of charging can provide you with 2 hours of game time. Got 3 minutes? Now you're set up for a proper 6 hours of gaming.

With impressive battery life and fast charging capabilities, the concern over power management subsides pretty quickly.

In my time with the Vector so far, I haven't had a need to charge it yet. In fact, when I checked the OMEN command center earlier, I was still at 60% despite regular usage in 3-5 hour stints over the last week or so.

Aside from battery life, there is one other thing that's extremely important for gamers: lag - or rather, the lack of it! A half-second of delay is enough to weed out the best from the rest, and so in order for the Vector to be successful, OMEN needed to make sure that latency would not be an issue.

The solution was building in a Pixart PAW3335 sensor, capable of maintaining 99% accuracy tracking. In my usage, I haven't noticed any drop in latency compared to my previous wired Magic Eagle mouse, whether I'm clicking on crops in Stardew Valley or trying (and failing) to secure a win in Warzone.

The mouse also just feels great in the hand - the click-wheel has enough substance that you don't end up flying through a web-page or overshoot on weapon-selection. The side buttons are also distinct enough from where my thumb rests on the side of the mouse that I don't accidentally click "back" - especially after spending a good 30 minutes on an online form. Definitely have never done that before. Nope.

Furthermore, while the weight isn't customizable, at .23 pounds, it's a great blend of substance and maneuverability.

A key to winning over the customer is providing customization, especially when it comes to mouse configuration for gaming. The Vector features RGB customization (a must-have, as we all know), as well as an intuitive button assignment dashboard in the OMEN Command center.

What's great about the OMEN Vector is that it pursues its goal of being an excellent and accessible wireless gaming mouse with a single-minded focus. With a competitive price-point and overall excellent comfort, battery life and response-time, it's a great addition to OMEN's lineup of gaming hardware. You can pick up the Vector for $99 starting today!

As the lineup of OMEN accessories grows, I'll be looking forward to more time in the command center, which provides an accessible and intuitive interface for folks to really make the accessories their own.

If this is any indication of the accessories to come, I'd keep my eye out for future releases!
